The Story About Zig Zag
Lines, repetition and geometric forms are recurring elements throughout my work, and were what initially drew me to this building. Its graphic façade, inspired by the Mexcellent typeface created for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico, immediately caught my attention through its rhythm, symmetry, and bold visual identity.
At first, the architecture alone felt enough. The elegant vertical lines and repeating geometric patterns, interrupted by the diagonal movement of the staircase zig zagging across the frame, already created a strong composition. But for me, the façade began to feel less like the subject itself and more like a backdrop or a canvas onto which another layer could emerge.
Using a long exposure, I introduced movement into the scene to contrast the rigidity of the architecture. The motion blurred figure breaks the repetition of the geometric forms, bringing a quieter sense of balance and fluidity to the image.
