About Mario

I have always had a fascination with photography and more specifically the black and white image. I discovered the camera's energizing capabilities when I bought a simple "Point and Shoot" which accompanied me on one of my first trips to India. The way it enabled me to observe and connect with my surroundings was incredible. Little did I know at the time that later on it would become my career.

More About The Artist

If I had to describe my photographic style in a short sentence it would be, "A minimalistic, monochromatic, still aesthetic."

Minimalistic

“Less is more”, “Simple is powerful” are not just sayings but principles which are cornerstones of my creative process and minimalism is one of the common threads running through each of the artworks. This can be seen in both the photographic compositions and the monochromatic palette.

Monochromatic

The stripping away of colourful distractions, allows for the focus to be on the essentials light, shadow, shape, texture and form. The simplicity and timeless elegance of monochromatic imagery, the rich, deep and detailed blacks coupled with crisp whites and all the tones in between transforming the mundane into marvellous.

Still Aesthetic

My subjects may vary be it from architecture, street through to landscapes whatever the choice they do have much in common in that I am searching to capture the aesthetic, the surreal and give you the viewer something unexpected. At the end of the day I am a story teller and instead of the written word, I convey my narrative through the use of still images.

Awards

My relentless pursuit of the surreal and love of the black and white photography has been acknowledged in the form of numerous international awards and commendations from internationally renowned institutions.
