This award winning, monochrome artwork portrays a Sicilian street scene and has for a backdrop the grandiose baroque cathedral of Noto. The photographic composition leads the viewer's eye through the arch, up the wide flight of steps, to a scene where curvaceous and concave shapes appear to compete with their convex counterparts. The cathedral, an epitome of baroque splendor with its intricate detailing and towering domes, stands contrasted against the Mediterranean sky, partially lit by the setting sun, illuminating the light stone facade. Notably, the scale of the structure is accentuated by the solitary silhouetted figure standing on the landing looking up at the cathedral, emphasizing its immense scale and majestic presence. This photograph transcends mere architectural documentation; the dramatic lighting along with silhouette looking up at the cathedral conveys a sense of awe, reverence, almost a, "Damascas Road Experience".
