The Story About Cubold

Row after row of yellow bays, repeating until the eye stops counting, colour and geometry entirely of one mind, bold, rhythmic and unapologetic. Moving close and keeping the camera parallel to the building, I let the vibrant facade fill the frame entirely.

From this distance and angle, the Willem Arntsz Huis in Utrecht crosses into abstraction, closer to the pop art tradition than to anything structural, the visual charge intense and relentless, the eye caught in the rhythm. 'Cubold' came with the image, a reshaping of cuboid that felt truer to the boldness of what I was seeing.

This fine art photograph marks the beginning of the Pop Arch series, where colour and architecture find each other. It is the piece I return to when I want to show what the series is about.

The precision of the photograph carries through to the print on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta, a bright white base with a semi-gloss finish that gives the yellow its full intensity. Every giclée print is crafted in collaboration with a master printer, using archival pigment inks on a plotter that sets the standard for museum and gallery fine art printing.

The artwork is inspected before I name, number and sign it. The reverse carries the title, location, camera settings and the date it was taken, ensuring provenance and traceability.
