The Story About Ascension

What continues to fascinate me about capturing street scenes is the way a moment can shift from the ordinary into something unexpectedly profound. In this image, taken at the Bilbao Metro entrance designed by Norman Foster, the converging lines and symmetry carry the eye from shadow into light, evoking both transition and possibility. What I really like is the subtle motion blur of the escalator in the foreground, a delicate trace of movement that accentuates the flow. It is in details like this that the image finds its voice, where stillness and motion meet and the everyday reveals a glimpse of the surreal.

'Ascension' is a limited edition of 10 fine art prints, giclée printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper. Each print is inspected by hand, then named, numbered and signed by Mario Tarantino, with the reverse carrying the title, location, camera settings and the date the photograph was taken. A stamped and signed certificate of authenticity accompanies the work, and the edition price rises as prints sell. This photograph won Second Prize at the Fine Art Photography Awards (FAPA).
