Wings suspended in the upward sweep of flight, a vision of the celestial as it turns on itself, the gentle rise and fall of a dune’s crest. These are not the associations architecture is usually expected to evoke. Yet there are moments when the structures we build shed their intended function, revealing in a glimpse something altogether different: an ethereal being carried on wings of steel, geometry set into swirling motion, or the meditative calm found as the eye follows an endless curve. It is here, in the architectural spaces we inhabit, the facades we pass, the bridges we cross, that ‘Archstract’ finds its beginning. For me, photographing this series means looking beyond the obvious in these structures, past their intended function, and finding the emotions they can stir. It is through abstraction that lines and patterns take on new meaning, one that conjures feeling through form. Awakening Reine Photographing each of these structures is ultimately an exercise in patience, waiting for a particular type of light, a precise moment when it reveals something more than itself, allowing the image to carry the emotion I had imagined.
